Hello all,
I've noticed in the past 6 months or so, my fairly large population of asterina starfish has disappeared. This, coincidentally or not, was around the same time that I added my flame hawkfish. Has anyone ever noticed their flame hawk going after little starfish? I mean, I can't complain because I no longer have a ton of little starfish running around in my tank I guess (I was pretty ambivalent to them) but I thought the timing of their disappearance and adding the hawkfish was more than a coincidence.

Interesting possibility, but mine goes after food in the water column; I’ve never seen it pounce on anything else, really. Let’s see what other people say ;)

I haven't noticed mine doing that but Harlequin Shrimp will get rid of them if that's your goal.

While I'm not going to say no chance, it is very highly unlikely. ie it would be just as likely he starts picking at zoas and palys.

I have noticed that my population of asterinas tends to ebb and flow.

I had a hawkfish in the tank for years and he didn't eradicate the stars.
