do Hammers encrust at the base?

I have a single head of hammer still on a large frag plug. It's doing good and i think i should probably pull it off the plug and mount it direct to the rock. Plus it will be in place more firmly than it currently is. Do they eventually encrust a plug if i just epoxied the plug or should i go direct to the rock?

same for a Duncan. do you usually break them off the plug and mount direct to a rock or no?

I cut them off the plug and superglue straight to the rock.

Hammer's don't really encrust. They will split or pop out new branches on the underside of existing branches. If they're a wall hammer they usually have new growth extending outwards off existing tissue.

Duncan's will encrust a bit and new heads will pop up out of the encrusting tissue.

Personally I take all Euphyllia off frag plugs and mount to rock. You will see the frag plug for a long time until the Euphyllia gets large enough to cover it.
