have a few montis that looked a little rough recently from a nutrient drop. didn't look bad but definitely lost some color in some areas. its weird because all of my acros/digis/other sps have been doing great but only the caps were affected. i test alk (8.3 target) and phosphate (>.05 target) daily with hanna checkers and keep them consistent (dose kalkwasser with versa and hand dose neophos when needed). The monti caps took a hit when phosphates dropped to .01 in one day.

i decided to dip them in iodine for about 5 minutes yesterday. when i put them back in the tank this stringy fuzz was coming off of the montis and it was whatever color the flesh was so im guessing thats very bad lol. i didnt see any nudis come off of them upon inspection so i dont think its that since my monti digis are doing well.

Anyway, i plan on getting some new monti caps soon, and im wondering if you guys dip yours? if so what dip?

What type of dip are you using.

I use KCl for most of my corals but I stay away from them when it comes to monti.

Most plating monti produce a slime when I use a dip in general.
i only used iodine recently when they lost some color. I didnt dip them upon introduction. When i get a new coral i just look at it with head gear and light and just brush the frag and base with a tooth brush and peroxide.

all of mine are shipped though so i just mainly want to avoid unnecessary stress with harsh dips.
