Keeping an aquarium has a lot of benefits, but a lot of people can also see having one come with a lot of downfalls. Like for instance not being able to go on long trips or vacations. Having to plan ahead in case there is a power outage. Or always having the risk of waking up to a flooded room due to a tank leak. I think the benefits outweigh the risks as long as your heart is in the hobby.

Not really.

Worst case is I'd have to schedule maintenance with a local vendor.

But really, my autofeeder can feed for 3 weeks. Thusfar in life I'm never away for that long. It makes me sane, because I'd be so upset with getting a tank sitter and them over feeding the tank.

I have redundancies for heaters, somewhat for controllers, 1/2 home battery with solar for power (the tank has been a significant investment!)

I go on the road for 3 weeks a few times every year and the tank has done just fine each time with auto feeders and large ATO reservoir.

For blackout prep I have large battery cells which can run my return pump for several days if needed. I have a generator in case of longer blackouts.

We have dogs as well which I would never board out.
This is the bigger issue for us, which usually keeps me at home when my wife goes cross country to visit the daughter, or for weekends we have dog sitters that take great care of our dogs.

I fly for a living and regularly leave for 5-6 days at a time. Limiting factor is my ATO reservoir. Not as scary as people name it out to be at all

Nah, I have a large dog that is pretty much a sociopath with murder in his heart that can only really be watched by two people, that is limiting. The tanks really are not.
