Do you give your fish names? :)

Here are the ones I plan to give mine:

Ocellaris Clownfish pair- Howl and Sophie (from Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle)

One Spot Fox Face- Mochi (cute name for a cute fish, plus I love the snack.)

Blue Throat Triggerfish- Momo (I find some triggers including this one pretty cute, so I thought I’d come up with another cute name. My hope is he’ll become good pals with my Foxface.)

Marine Betta- Vlad (Dark fish, nocturnal, cryptic, elegant)

Pajama Cardinals- Lisa, Rose, Jeannie (I had thought of getting two pairs so I can have all 4 members of Blackpink, but WWM said keeping a trio is better. Sorry, Jisoo.)

Yellow Tang- Duckie (somehow the bright yellow reminds me of B Duck, you know the brand. It’s got a bit of a long “beak” too, so thought Duckie would be a good name.)

Flame Hawkfish- Luffy (it’s got those really comical eyes, much like Luffy from One Piece.)



If I get these fish this is what I will name them:

Black and White Bannerfish- Yunchang (the Chinese name of all Heniochus is 關刀, the “Guan Blade” as a reference to the polearm used by the General Guan Yu in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. In ancient times all men and some women had a common name and a “courtesy name” usually meant to reflect certain aspirations for their character / path in life, and Guan Yu’s was Yunchang.)

Scribbled Angelfish- Vincent (because it’s colors are like Van Gogh’s paintings). Was originally planning to name it Richard to pay homage to my Australian friend, but then I thought “nah that’s too disrespectful” lol.

Yellow Eye Kole Tang- Lilo (To pay homage to its Hawaiian origin.)


Lamarck’s Angelfish- Tzuyu (My favorite member of TWICE.)


Watanabei or Bellus or Spotbreast Pair- Takaki and Akari (they didn’t get to be together in Five Centimeters Per Second by Makoto Shinkai, so if I can have them in fish form and mated for life in my tank that would fulfill the romantic side of me.)

I was originally considering naming all of my fish after warships (US, Japanese, German) but thought it was too warlike for a peaceful hobby lol. That’s Kancolle / naval history fan in me lol. Also a World of Warships and former Navy Field player lol.

But the wife has names for all the fish, 2 nem crabs, 2 blood & formerly 2 cleaner shrimp.

Yes... My melanuras wrasse is called Tom (my mom chose that one), my banggai cardinaalfish is called pug (his face looks like the dog), and my onyx clownfish is called piccasso (thats what we thought he was when we bought him)

I like giving my fish cute-ish sounding names lol. And when I get a chance to hand feed some of them it will become even cuter lol.

I name most, not all of them.

2 clowns in my biocube are Bonnie and clyde - because they are jerks and bite everytime I put a hand in the tank.

In the other tank my 2 clowns a black misbar and a black ice, orca is the misbar and she got her name from her flopped over dorsal fin, and she looks like an orca. I usually just call her mama though since they lay eggs frequently. The black ice is rob van winkle. Robbie for short.

Fat Albert - starry blenny with a huge gut.
Mean green - warpaint clown goby
Casper - a white watchman goby, name is fitting because I don’t see him for weeks at a time.
6 blue/green chromis - the blue crew, notorious members are “baby blue” since he’s tiny and really has not grown at all. And “spot” he has some whiteish spot on his scales.
Yellow tang - no name yet.
