My take would be, the brittle star is generally considered reef safe and a good member of your clean up crew.

The sand sifters are really not a great choice for most home aquaria. They require a very mature and large sandbed, otherwise they quickly deplete their food source, and slowly starve to death in many tanks.

Certainly, I'm not an expert, and others may have their own thoughts here.

Good luck!

Personally I like having a serpent star in my tanks, brittle stars look too much like tarantulas for me.

I've learned from everyone else's experience with sand sifting stars and never tried one.
