I have a guy I can get really cheap torch, colonies, and hammer colonies from. The only problem is they will need to grow out a bit until they can be fragged. I have no idea how long it will actually take for the heads on the colony to grow out. Do you think I should take the deal at the bulk price or hold off?

Its really up to you.

I am not sure that I understand the question. They are either a good deal or not based on size and price. And you either think that is a good value or not based on what they look like. You are either willing to wait for them to be ready or not. We can’t decide those things for you.

I would just wait til they grow out and can be fragged

I don’t understand what’s even being asked.

A deal is probably being offered because they are colonies not ready to be fragged. This is a good opportunity to me.

Buy the colonies. Enjoy them. And frag them as branches become ready. Then recover some money

How fast? Complely depends on the torch and your system. What kind of torches are these?

I have a knicks that grew from 1 head to 4 in a year

At the same time, I got a banana grail. In that year it grew into one massive head and had pinched spots where splitting could be predicted, but no actual splits. Now 6 months later, it’s almost done going from one massive head into 8-9 individual heads.

I grew a hammer from 2 heads to 20+ in a year. I’m the next 6 months it became 25-28. Shading is now affecting further growth. Which is fine for me, it’s pretty big and space is an issue. Ill probably frag it and sell some

Both Introduced as 1 head, within few weeks of each other. Placed adjacent. So it’s nearly identical conditions for lighting and flow

The kicks was 4 head. Standard growth pattern. But the banana…

Still not fragable and one large head! Grew like a “wall torch” if that’s even a thing l

You can start to see where splitting is starting and individual heads will eventually be formed

Now I have a few heads and a few “wall areas” still pinching. This will eventually be 9 heads but at the moment - I would stay it’s been 18 month and still not fragable. Huge. Healthy. But no real safe and good cut points

Sooo hard to answer the question. Some torch grow faster or different than others

That sounds like they are single polyp torches. If your looking for them to have more heads the price will go up. If you want to grow them out yourself. I would grab them now.
