Hello,
Considering getting a pair of Icecap Gyres for my SPS dominate tank and setting them up on either end in a crossflow pattern.

Does anyone run this and how do you and your corals enjoy it?

What size tank?

I added 2 to my tank with 4 mp40 They provide more laminar flow compared to the mp40. Both have their place but having both is nice.

Ive seen increased growth since adding the gyres.

Agree with above, having both is the best of both worlds. I am currently using 2 MP40's along with 2 Gyre 350's. I have the MP40's in reef crest mode and the Gyres in a variable speed mode with time delay on the 2nd Gyre.

Originally, I had 1 Gyre 350, at 30 percent, and 1 MP40 on a 120 gal tank. Now I have 2 of each on my 225 gal tank.

Tank in my build thread.

240g 5ftx3ftx2ft

Currently with 2x Neptune Wavs 2x Jebao SLW 30s.

I had a single gyres from my old tank but it died. I was considering the gyre again as the tub 3ft front to back shape of my tank seems to be a prime candidate for a line source for the water movement.

My tank is 6” x 2” x 2” more or less. With your width I’d be adding more flow especially when frags grow into colonies.

Mine like it. I’ve got 2 Jebao 150 Gyres running at the top, one MP-40 and one AI Nero 5 on the back for more direct flow. The gyres create really broad flow with the undertow and a little bit of chaotic mixing where they meet. I’m running a 200g dd 48x36x25

Two 4ks, one on each side of a 125g - 72x18x22

Ive got them set to alternate sine waves 25%-100% from about 2200 to 0600. 0600 to 1200 is random, then another 4 hours of sine wave, then random until 2200.

Pretty happy with the flow and everything has good PE and growth so far.

Will probably add another gyre to stick on sideways toward the bottom and run that random with reverse 24/7 to get a little more flow and keep detritus suspended.

To get schedule for a Gyre I believe we have to purchase a module which is extra $69. So for now I’m constantly on Alternating Gyre on opposite ends at all times

I run 2 gyres on my back wall (30%) and 2 on opposite sides of my 180 (75-100%)- my sps are happy.

Anyone else here get tired of constantly cleaning gyres? Not to hijack the thread, but I feel like its a consideration for potential purchase. I have 2x XF350 on my 5x2x2 tank, and they push great water when theyre clean but every month or so I have to clean them or they slow way down and don't push nearly as much water. not sure if I'm in the minority there but I've read others have the same issue.

I have one jebao scp-150 vertical on either end of my tank alternating which one is on. My sps seem to like the flow and it's cool to watch the gentle back and forth swaying of the water.

Has anyone come up with a dependable tool that helps disassemble the maxspect gyres?
Last time I cleaned mine I couldn't fully disassemble them which basically means I am running on limited time before they crap out and need replacement.

It seems to me that maxspect should include a tool or sell one for this purpose as I've already broken one of the impellers in the past trying to take it apart. It really irks me.

I’m planning on running two 330s in my 4ft 120. Will be using the hydros wave engine. With the aqua cape I’m planning I think this will take care of most of the flow for my tank. Eventually I may add a small nero on the back wall down low if eventual coral growth makes detritus build up.

Also, as far as cleaning goes, I believe it’s @sp1187 who runs gyres and just puts them in a bucket of vinegar and runs them to clean them out. Hopefully he’ll jump in here and chime in about this

I'm using two of the now discontinued 230's.
I don't ever take them apart.
I use the mesh covers BRS sells on them.
cleaning for me consists of removing and cleaning the meshes (or replacing) and using a tooth brush on the pump itself.
run them in a 5g bucket of fresh water to flush them out.
why would I take something apart that is working fine.
