Does anyone not have their rollermats in the filter sock area?

I'm interested in adding a rollermat, but I'm not sure I want to cut my sump and remove the filter sock holders. Is it standard to put the rollermat in place of the socks, or could it be put in the next compartment?

My reason being that I don't feel confident in cutting sock holders out, and I would still like to put something in them, such as media cups with carbon and phosguard.

If people have theirs in other places in the sump, I'd love to hear about it and what you did for plumbing.

I don't think it matters much, as long as it's in the sump and filters the water before returning to the DT.
