This was a really good read. I have an all SPs tank (for now, like OP I plan to put some Zoas on the glass where my reef waves have decided that no sand will ever be). I’m going to toss out the 1/100 rule here then. I’m sitting at NO3 12.1 and .06 for PO4. I’m concerned I have too much going on. I need to enhance my lighting, it’s a 24x36 tank and. I have a XR30b G6, I’m likely going to put a 4 bulb dimmable T5 from Aquatics Life as a hybrid, but I am struggling to keep up with 2 part. System sucked up 1k ML of BRS 2 part yesterday. I’m about to order GEO super silent CR as I am typing this out. Man, this thread was Uber helpful this am.

I really appreciate all the advise that was shared in a clear manner, with analogies. Really helped me wrap my head around things.

I am currently seeing these parameters (I recently cleaned my kalk stirrer and who knew it was running inefficiently it’s just kalk… turns out I had to cut the dose in half).

8.6 alk
1350 mag
460 ca
Nitrates - 5
Po4 - 0.17

I’m literally dunking food into the tank, the fish are huge. The new 10k spectrum from the reefbrite halides have significantly improved things as well, I am seeing more PE and improved colors. Still no water changes.

My ICP tests are taking baby steps to the optimal numbers based on moonshiners.

I do think that having optimal trace elements makes the acros more forgiving…

Update -

I’m seeing what I think are baby branches starting to come out of encrusting bases and from the tabling acros. Too soon to share a pic, but it’s definitely something!

Current parameters:

Alk - 7.3 (I’ve been getting minor swings lately, maybe consumption is increasing)
Ca - 420
Mg -1350
Nitrates - 5
Po4 - .20

Time to feed the tank for the fourth time today :D
