Long story short... my snails are dying off rapidly and my starfish are on the sand with their legs curled up (2 chocolate chip & 2 sand sifters). My 2 brittle stars seem to be fine. I’m not sure what else I can do!? I had a bacterial bloom occur about a week ago after I added a blue spotted goby to my 40 gallon. I currently have a pair of clowns, yellow damsel, 6 line wrasse and my goby. My levels are ph 8.0, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, however my nitrate was at 20ppm. It was like 40ppm a couple of days ago but I have been doing about a 30% water change everyday for the last 3 days to try to bring it down. Another problem that occurred was that I ordered a refractometer (as I was using a instant ocean hydrometer before) and came to find that my salinity was NOT 1.025 like my hydrometer was reading, but was actually bearly reading 1.002!! So, over the last couple of days I have slowly been increasing. Last night I got it to 1.015. I’m going to do a water change again tonight and hopefully get it to 1.020. SO with everything going on I am not quite sure what else I should be doing. Also forgot to mention that my pink Condy was also dead this morning!!!!! So frustrated. My fish are thriving and my invertebrates are dying. Probably assuming it’s mostly to do with the salinity increasing??
