Hey guys. The biocube is pretty self-contained from what I've read and seen so I can't imagine I would need much more for that tank but I did put out other emails before getting word back from Coralife so it's possible another tank might come in.

This is the wishlist just for the biocube. I plan on moving really slow with the tank build to highlight each stage so it may be a little while before I start adding livestock. Plus I have 5 Bio classes over 2 days so I want all classes to feel like they had a part in it (I'm sure my 2 U.S. History classes will find a reason to join in on the fun).

1. Live sand
2. Dry rock
3. API Master test kits (Saltwater & Reef). Will be especially useful when I get to the properties of water and nutrient cycling
4. Heater (still need to find out whether the school shuts down a/c on weekends)
5. Protein skimmer
6. Powerhead

I'm sure there are a lot more things I can use but that seems like enough to get started. When I made this post initially I thought it was just a shot in the dark and a few people would view it maybe even less would respond to it. To see the the amount of effort and care you guys have put in to help me out really means a lot. Thank you
I have a new power head and an InTank enhancement for your filter. I may have a heater as well. Trying to get you a fuge light. I have a plug in that would allow you to run the fuge light at night.

The sand I believe will be too fine and just cloud up the tank.
Most sand will cloud the tank but it will settle. You should probably get to know a good LFS anyway, you will need grab stuff on the fly. He will be able to give you the ins and outs of sourcing local water and sand. and Ill bet they would trade Goods for an advertisement in the school paper;)

You’re probably right about the sand. It wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.

Find a local fish store LFS and see what his thoughts are you may find that he works with the local schools, also several of the @reefsquad here are in Florida.
ANYONE any issues using beach sand and ocean water?.
You have some homework to do

Tank came in...

Just kidding. The teacher who was in the room before me left this 2.5 gallon beta tank which I’ll set up in the meantime. I found out that the size of the tank coming is a 32g biocube.

That Biocube 32 is a great little all in one tank I started with that tank last year and it still looks GREAT. I would recommend getting the intank media basket and refugium if you can get them.

I did my homework. A large percentage of your students would be considered "at risk", aren't they?

It's a very mixed demographic (racially and economically) in our school. Coconut Creek is smack in the middle of North Broward County so on the west we have Parkland which is extremely affluent and almost everywhere else is a mixed bag with some more "at risk" kids. A lot of parents who may be closer to a lower rated school may try to put their children in my high school which you can't blame them for. But what ends up happening is several of the kids coming in may be struggling readers or have difficulty with English which can affect the school grade (extremely misleading by the way). Hope that answers your question.

That's what I meant. I am happy the kids can find a common ground despite differences. I frequently have Spanish speaking kids at my house. The tanks are universal. R2R is proof of that.
