Dont forget change your RODI filters

Speaking of rodi filters ....how often do change your carbon blocks and sediment filters? I use twin color changing DI resin filters and it seems they rarely change much color for me. I just changed all my carbon blocks and sediment and one DI. My water coming out my RO is like 3 tds so maybe it just doesnt use it up very fast. Last change was Sept 2024 until today Dec 29,2025. It was still saying zero tds. I checked with two different meters. My system is only 75 gallon RODI no pressure pump needed.

Because of where I live (SoCal) my water is TERRIBLE coming out of the main.. i have 1400 TDS , yes that is a real thing.
Because of that I have a water softener to help the RODI. I can get down to 0 TDS but go through DI resin about every 6 weeks.
I have a 7stage with dual Chlor plus carbon, one sediment, two RO and dual DI...
I swap everything once, besides the far more often than Id like DI, once a year . About now to be precise ..

Wow....thats some horrible water.....I used to live in Texas and it was 600 plus and i thought that was bad. I get around 38 now in Michigan where i live off city water.

Maybe why mine lasts so long? I just worry its all used up and maybe its just not.

It fluctuates throughout the year, but most of our water in Anaheim comes from city wells. These are fed from a large natural aquifer in the Santa Ana River, which, is very close to my house.
The interesting thing is that the deeper the well, the better the water quality. The city gets to average the numbers to get within Federal TDS limits .
Apparently, I got the short end of the well map, and the House of Mouse and the Anaheim Convention Center being on the other end of the spectrum...

Makes sense deeper well would be better water quality. A lot are on wells here mainly unless in city like me but i dont know the numbers of there wells other than high iron and hard water they say.

I'm quite new at this but I was under the impression TDS must be zero or your tank will be condemned to Algae Hell. I test my TDS each time I use my system, and change my DI at anything above zero. Mine has lasted only 3 months... I'm on city water unfiltered is in the 600s.

It's nice to know measuring 2 TDS is okay. I must say I havent had any issues thus far with team #zeroTDS! lol..

0 TDS isn't required, but obviously helps with unwanted algae problems. Honestly 3-5ppm is fine..
In my case, getting from 5-0 is basically the same thing... You probably don't need to change the DI as often as you are .
That said, if you notice unwanted problem algae, you could go back to 0 TDS to help mitigate the issue

Have you thought about running aniox, caution and then dual bed resin as it will deplete either axion or cautin first before depleting dual bed by running three di chambers. I know i switched to it and i run out of caution 3 times before needing to replace axion and dual bed looks like new
