I would monitor only alkalinity, not calcium since there will be too much testing noise in a few days decline to learn much about calcium. We can get the demand for calcium from the alk drop,

There are a few ways to figure the alk demand, but IMO, waiting 7 days and then dividing the dose by 7 is not always best. To some extent the optimal method depends on the demand itself (which partly depends on what is in the tank). Also note that the demand at 11 dKH is far higher than at 7 dKH, and it disappears fast below 7 dKH. That's one reason the 7 day plan can fail.

An alternate way is to guess a daily dose based on what is in the tank, and begin adjusting every few days if the alk drops or rises from where you want it.
