Dosing phosphates

Got it! Thank you for the advice! I based on my current consumption, it appears to be around 5ppm/daily according to the Hanna po4 tester. I had definitely noticed some stress in some corals when it bottomed out. Once I started dosing po4 the stressed appearance dissipated

That is a lot of phosphate per day. I would recommend verifying that.

I agree, but I am dosing daily and checking with the test. I thought about getting a different tester as well as a secondary means. What tester are you using?

Hanna but I do not dose anymore since my phosphates came up but the most I ever dosed was 0.05 ppm per day.

heres my calculation for my p04/kci concoction based on randy's formula

KCI/PO4 Forumla for dose
100g KCI to 1L makes stock soln 3ml to 75L tank adds 1.93ppm per day

And for TSP, 1.88g to 1L to make stock soln where 1mL to 75L tank will add 0.015ppm
adding 3.3ml will add 0.05ppm of phospate per day.

so i add 1.88g TSP and 100g KCI to 1 liter to make my stock soln -- then i dose 3ml per day starting -- im at 5ml per day now and my phosphate floats between 0.01-0.05 and my Potassium between 410-430

I use reef crystal with AFR and they are low on potassium

I presume he really means 0.05 ppm per day.
Randy - I ordered this phosphate powder. Could you please let me know if this is acceptable? Thank you, Greg Sproles

Just starting this process myself. I've did this before but for some reason phosphates have bottomed out again (causing some stn).

Started dosing 0.1ppm a day 2 days ago and next day it's back down to 0.018 (which is what it has been for a while but corals are struggling).

I know it's getting in their though because algae has spouted suddenly and the corals that were suffering have shown polyp extension for the first time in a while.

Should I stick to 0.01 a day or up it until it holds to a level I want?

And once I get to that level I guess I lower the dose to a point that I can maintain it?

Cool. Would you say if it's possible it's preferable to spread that dose out across the day? Or will 1 shot and done make no difference?

It cannot be worse to spread it out, but I do not know if it matters.

I ended up spreading the doses. It works better for me.

Tanks still consuming phosphate at an astound rate. I dose your solution at double strength (1.88gr tri phosphate to 500ml of ro, 24 times a day, 0.9ml at a time. That keeps my phosphate quite steady at about 0.055.
