Dragon Soul Brown Bands

I was just wondering if anybody had any insight on what these brown bands around the base of my dragon soul were? The coral is super happy and out waving around in the flow so not sure what to make of it. Thanks!

I don’t think so. It’s hard. I took a metal instrument and just kind of scraped at it a little bit to see if it was gelatinous, and it just feels like part of the skeleton
