I got my Achilles Tang about 2 months ago - great addition to my 200g mixed reef tank. He joins another tang, fox face and swallowtail angel along with a few smaller fish

Stopped by my LFS today and they had a dream fish for myself and many of you all!

They just got this big boy/ girl in this morning, probably about 6-7” and very fat.

Guess how much they are selling him/ her for.

Beautiful fish!!! I have always loved an Achilles tang. Wish I could have a tank big enough to have one.

I picked up this Labout's Fairy Wrasse from a friend (he buys them wholesale and then q/t's them for 60 days before you take delivery) - the photo isn't very good but the fish is absolutely stunning. Yellow tang photo bombed as well.

Some of the stuff they get in Japan is next level, especially deepwater and otherwise rare stuff. What I’ve seen of a couple dedicated collectors there is that they go to great lengths to provide suitable chilled habitats for their collections of deepwater species, like this one guy who featured on Reef Builders I think almost 10 years ago whose tanks were all double reinforced to keep temperatures in the mid to high 60s.

What I’ve also seen is that the “Tang Gang” for some of the (more dedicated) ones over there isn’t as big of a thing. They seem to prefer Wrasses, Anthias, Dwarf Angels, Butterflies, and Basslets over most Tangs except for the common Zebrasoma and the Blue.

If I could have access to everything they have and the expertise for keeping these very deepwater species, I’d probably have 1 or 2 setups for all the Bodianus, Odontanthias, Sacura, deepwater Centropyge / Paracentropyge, Liopropoma, Genicanthus, Bandit Angels, Prognathodes and Roa without any corals, and an easier reef setup for more common species.
