Upgrade from: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/fluval-evo-13-5-rock-flower-anemone-tank.846744/

Well the fluval evo 13.5 didn't last long. Saw this one and couldn't pass it up. Really dig the dimensions and look of this guy. Still plan to do predominantly anemones.

The tank: rimless DSA 23x23x15 inch 30 gallon cube with center rear overflow. Sump looks to be a 10 gallon with baffles.
Eheim 1250 return pump
Jebao-dcs 1200 return pump
AI Prime HD 16
Tunze 3152 ATO
2x Nero3
Bubble Magus Z-5

Stocking plans:
Many rock flower anemones
Rbta
Gbta
Couple torches
Zoas

Pair of clowns
Purple firefish
Midas or starry blennie

5 (maybe 7) sexy shrimp
Porcelain crab

It got a vinegar bath and is getting a water test right now.

So I have about 6" x 9" to work with for a skimmer. Suggestions?

I have one hygger nano WaveMaker, would a second be enough for this tank? Maybe I should upgrade to an mp40? Or I hear a lot about the nero...hmmm. Would love suggestions on this too.

Stoked for this rock flower tank!! Nice choice as well for the upgrade! Gonna do anything with the fluval? Or just hospital tank it?
Yeah I'm super happy to have found this one, I love the footprint and that it's not 2 feet tall.

Fluval will be taken down. Not sure if I'll let it go to a new home or keep it around.

Seems like a ton of bubbles in the drain section of the sump. Normal?
Is it while you are adding water? Or while its just sitting. Could just be air from added water through a siphon or fast dump. They should aerate and go away in a bit of time regardless.

Doing the wet test so it's been running with just fresh water in the backyard for a couple hours. Maybe this will help, sorry for the background noise.

Cool looking tank. I'm not a huge fan of cubes, but I'm liking the dimensions on that one.

Okay, wet test was big success. Small leak on the return bulkhead. Gave it a little tighten and all good.

Now...decisions need to be made. I kinda like it in the corner more. (Excuse the wires, cable management is for another day)

All swapped over! Super happy with this little upgrade so far. Things are a little dusty after adding more sand.

After some durso troubleshooting, I swapped the eheim to a jebao dcs-1200 so I could adjust it. Pretty darn quiet.

Going with the Bubble Magus Z-5 skimmer, to be ordered soon.

Any input on the aquascape? Feel like it looks a little flat right now but once I get some torches up top it will look better...maybe?

My current AI Prime 16HD set up. Modified the times on a schedule I found on the AI site. Anything look terribly weird as far as the spectrum or intensity? The light is about 6" or so off the water in a 15" deep tank.

Planning to do a little fuge in the sump. I have this fluval sea nano light that I would like to use for the fuge. No idea what I'm doing lol. A lot of the fuge lights I see are red so maybe something like this? Opposite of the display lights?

Fully in the ugly stage, with diatoms. CUC should arrive by Wed.

And just wanted to show off this little beauty

Moved things around yesterday in hopes of making an "anemone island". And added a beautiful orange tipped green bta. Well this morning he has decided to hide on the underside of the other island. Oh well..

You need to make a Strainer for your downturned pipe in your overflow. The Anemone can get in there, plug up the drain pipe and overflow the aquarium. This happened to me. I have the DSA 65 Gallon, wish they hadn’t gone out of business.

Appreciate the advice!

I do have strainer on the down pipe. Came with the tank, I assumed for snails but now glad to have it for the nems too.

I know someone who has a 165 gallon DSA Pro stored in their Butler building. I droll over this Aquarium, but at 4.8 K, that’s way too much money.

This is the Strainer I made from some Plastic Rain Gutter Mesh. If you get this from a Lumber Store, make sure it doesn’t have the metal mesh in it.
