I have been away from reef tanks for way too long, I'm starting a small apartment build based off my kids wanting salt again ( Blue Dot Ray from my oldest, and Japanese Dragon Eel from my youngest.) Living situation precludes larger tanks, but I've been having the itch myself so here is the beginning of my dual 40b apartment peninsula. I was surprised to get all of these 8ft 2x4's to fit in my Golf.

Beginning of my overbuilt stand.

I want to do a custom 36x24x20 once I move out of the apartment, in about 6 to 10 months, but this is my catharsis until then.

Stand is 36x26x30.

Completed.

Decided to go peninsula, even with limited floor space. Sealed with Kilz.

Cleaned up the outside. Not quite perfect in these pics. Drilled too deep, and didn't have French Cleat/ neodymium magnets set up properly. 20200222_185457.jpg

Went with SCA-301 for dual 40b's at first, probably 60g total for initial design. Plan is to have a custom 80g to 180g within two years.

Box for SCA-301 was messed up pretty bad. I have a good price on a SCA-302 for $165, or a Simplicity 240DC for $220. Any thoughts?

Parts list going forward:

Dual 40B
Fijicube 1200gph overflow
Either SCA-302 or Simplicity-240 ( I know both are oversized, but the 40 display is short term)
Jebao DCQ-10000 (purchased)
Jebao DCP-8k or 10k (backup)
Jebao SLW-20 x2 wave controller
Vivarspectra 165w x2
40b sump - Fijicube baffles, (pending email questions about swapping sump and return.)

Definitely going Reef-Pi, initial parts of build started for Jebao dosing, working on Inkbird heater controller for now.

Spectrapure Max-Cap with plans for .5 Di filters in future before coral.

Plans are evolving, let me know if I have missed something you deem important.

This is all equipment with plans to upgrade in the next year, protein skimmer size has me the more concerned with current/vs future.

Skimmer suggestion size here, seems 6 years ago has changed a lot, but not everything. Dual 40 w/ possible 160/40b shortly.
Well,
Still a Bubble King guy and Deltec skimmers are still good.

Seems like those NYOS skimmers have been hot over the past few years.

Your build is coming along real nice.

so is the going to be 2 40br side to side on same stand? or 2 separate stands with tanks?
I do love a good 40br still one of the best tanks out there for the money great foot print.

I have a brand new reef pi full controller I got but never used it, not much of a techie PM if you need it.

and keep the updates coming!

Going to be 40 display and 40 sump, perhaps display fuge on the end of the sump on the open end of the stand if I can make it work.

I saw this thread when I was researching the skimmer and really got me interested. I'm just unsure about that being waaay to much skimmer for effectively 60 or 70 gallons total.

lol
That would be overkill for that many gallons, and might be hard to dial in.
