Dual Return from Sump?

I'm trying to solidify my future 40gal Breeder w/ sump build. Right now, I'm planning on placing a FijiCube-20 sump under the stand. The research that I've done has indicated that doing dual return pumps is best. The problem is that the sump in question only has a return section of 8.1"L x 5.8"W. I'm considering decent controllable DC pumps (Ecotech Vectra or equivalent), but their dimensions are too big for two pumps to fit. I'm looking for advice or suggestions. What should I plan to do?

I think the issue is scale. You don't need two jet engines on a Cessna.

In your case, having a second backup pump available if the wet one fails is the best result you can plan for.

A S2 would be enough for that tank.

While I'm a fan of dual return pumps for redundancy, I don't feel like it's an absolute must for every system. It would be a lot easier on you real estate+accessibility wise to swap out 1 dead pump than dig through your stand to get one of two pumps out with the extra plumbing.
No need to over complicate things.
