Dumpster diving at aquarium stores?

I just watched this guy on YouTube (Craigslisthunter) and he scored a perfectly good 40gallon breeder dumpster diving at PetCo. So I'm wondering if have any of you dumpster dived and if you have, what did you score.

Not to be the Dumpster Police..but be careful as it is Petco's...property and you could get in trouble without prior approval..which I doubt they would give anyone to pick thru their trash..dangerous objects, private info etc.

Saw someone rescuing iguana babies from one of their dumpsters last year. If there's something living in there besides a rat or two, I'm going in.

Not to be the Dumpster Police..but be careful as it is Petco's...property and you could get in trouble without prior approval..which I doubt they would give anyone to pick thru their trash..dangerous objects, private info etc.

It actually isn't. Once something is thrown away, it becomes part of the public domain unless on private property

YES they are. Stores pay for trash service ( dumpsters) and they are usually in shopping centers ( private property) Now if you go to the local county dump that is different. But be assured dumpsters in shopping centers/ store lots ARE on private property

The only way a dumpster would be considered as private property is if it is behind an enclosure marked "No Trespassing" Look it up

I think it could depend on the city or state. My hubby was getting rid of some larger items from home into a dumpster at his workplace. They had cameras on it and actually tried to fine him for using it. We got notification from the police. He did work in the building, but they were really ticked for using and claimed it was illegal. It was not behind any doors. Large business complex type building.

I found a whole ten gallon tank set up in one next to a liquor store. It had everything but the heater.

That makes sense I guess. They pay for removal, do not want extras in it. We have people that come around our neighborhood and go through trash. I have never known it to be an issue taking out. :)

It depends on local laws, but I can tell you in CT it is perfectly legal to take someone else's trash. Once it's in the garbage can it's abandoned property. As long as there is not a No Trespass sign. People go digging through for cans all the time, not illegal. If you leave your own trash behind, its illegal dumping and there is a fine.

Dumpsters are private property I had a guy picked up for putting trash in mine he just got a fine, and then I had some other guy's put a whole pickup load in a construction dumpster and was about it when I got my my phone out he got nicer but then the police showed up, they kindly ask me what I wanted to do, I made them do the dumpster dive and take a bunch of my stuff with them too.
