My Duncan frag has closed up after falling off the rock it was placed on. Do you think it will recover?

Duncans are fairly tough...they can close up for a couple days but they bounce back.

Mine closes for up to 5 days occasionally. Normally it's either sprouting a new head or just sulking. I wouldn't worry

Do Duncan corals eventually attach to live rock naturally?

My Duncan is slowly encrusting the putty I used to attach it to the rock. Here is a picture showing what I mean.

Certainly isn't doing it overnight. That's about 6 months of growth.
