Dwarf mangrove stingray

Does anyone have one? Does it eat well for you? Any tips/advice? Even Google doesn’t really say much.

Are you referring to the scientific name? I am not sure if so. I could google it but that doesn’t mean it would be correct. It’s a small stingray (whipray) he mostly stays on the back wall or glass of our aquarium. He was eating krill in the store but hasn’t eaten for us that I have seen so I’m getting pretty nervous. I have tried to research and even google gives me very little information which is also a little worrisome.

Common names can change whenever a specimen changes hands so I'd consider a genus and species name more reliable. Like I said I haven't herd that common name before.

That is worrisome behavior. Do you have a sand bed and lots of open space? Is there a larger fish that might be harrassing it, what are it's tank mates? I'd be looking at why it doesn't feel safe resting and slowly swimming above the bottom of the tank.

As far as feeding, you might try live shrimp. Live marine grass or glass shrimp would be a natural food item for it. You'll likely be able to find the freshwater species easily and those would be worth a try just be sure to remove any dead ones as soon as possible.

Actually tonight he gobbled up a good amount of frozen mysis with a long dropper. The tank does have space for him to swim we have corals and live rock but everything is still small enough that we could re arrange things some for him. Currently he’s very small, the body would fit in the palm of my hand. His tiny tail does seem to have two little barbs though so far the only scientific name I have found would be Brevitrygon walga. I’m not sure how I could have found him in the store if that is correct though so I’m thinking possibly as you stated above the common name I’m looking up is maybe a little different than what he actually is. I hope so anyway. But either way I am very happy that at least he has food in his baby stingray belly!

Hi! Yes! That is what keeps coming up… the aquarium store we got him from said that he is a dwarf or Pygmy version. Have you heard of this?

FWIW, even though it looks like a very small species it still needs a lot of room. I would give it an open sand bed at least a coupel times wider than it's adult width and at least 6-8 times longer so it has enough room to swim and turn around.
