I use the phosban reactor by two little fishies

you can put other things in it other than GFO but Its very easy to unscrew the top and empty out the reactor you can also put it at an angle so that the water in the reactor flows back into the sump without having to open it.

also, this does leak so you will have to angle it into the sump so that the water drips back into the tank rather than the floor.

I use the biomaxx XL bio pellet reactor and it's easy maintence after adding the slide loc nuts instead of the plastic thumb screws it comes standard with. About a $35 upgrade but we'll worth it if u don't wanna deal with wet paper towels and such.

I’ll second @leonardomanzano - i use 2 x TwoLittleFishies reactors in my 125 gallon reef tank and they work like a treat! Dear cheap to buy, solidly build and easy ho maintain and change media.

Thats what you need to go fore, definitely!

Can you get better build reactors? Sure! Do you need it, apart from the gear head in you? NO!

I’ve used various media reactors (including the TLF ones) but moved away from them due to the maintenance nightmare. I’m too lazy to unscrew, rinse, and replace the media. Oh yeah — don’t forget the pump and adjusting tumbling speed. As for carbon, I used to run it in reactors but been having success with disposable nylon bags, placed in high flow areas.

For PO4 control, I use PhosphateRx every 6mos to knock it down. I believe that I’ve lost many SPS frags due to GFO when PO4 bottomed out. It’s hard to measure / calculate how much PO4 to take out. Instead, I just drop 60-80 drops of PhosphateRx every 6mos — extremely easy and zero mess!

Anyway, that’s what I do and things seem to be working well. Good luck with your tank!

What I’m saying is: say no to media reactors! They are too messy to deal with. I went with disposable nylon bags in high flow areas. Just my 2c

If you still prefer media reactors, I would agree with others on the TLF ones - been around for years and rock-solid build quality. Sorry, I personally don’t have experience with BRS reactors.

I have this and have used it for carbon and GFO. I also have had several tlf reactors. Both are good but I prefer the BRS. I find it more solid and easier to reload.

I just set up an aquamaxx reactor. Works great and no leaks. I also have two little fishies phosban reactor and the aquamaxx is just much better built
