So I sold an Xbox 360 guitar that apparently had a faulty switch I didn't know about since I had no Xbox.
Well it sold pretty quick and the buyer said it didn't work so I said try air duster, and if that doesn't work then I will remind the money in full.

Instead he disassembled it completely tryin to repair it. I informed him that was more than I asked him to do and cannot refund the money in full because there is a chance he could have damaged more than what was already messed up.

I said I could give him partial refund for going beyond my request.
Instead of accepting it or at least trying to ask nicely he said (with out the abbreviation).

The buyer has responded to you.Jul 04, 2013 at 8:41 AM
Buyer's message:
"Bs, it did not work before I took it apart. It was defective before I even took the back off."

This violated Ebays profanity rules.
Has anyone had luck with these types of cases?

I clearly told him my instructions to receive a full refund and that was essentially his response after dismantling the guitar.

I have a small 100% feedback score and I'm not trying to rip someone off, but it seems that this guy is under the impression I am.

How would you feel if you were me? Am I wrong to report him for profanity? Is partial refund fair when he could possibly have made it worse?

I'd personally give him a full refund unless it said not tested or for parts. Rep is pretty much everything on ebay

I wouldn't refund him, I'd let him file a dispute if he wants to, as long as you have all the messages of him saying he completely dismantled it they should side with you.

Lots of people on ebay try to take advantage by threatening bad feedback, don't fall for it...

I would probably just give a full refund as well. I would not of given him the option to use the air duster, I would just have him send it back and tried to clean it myself. Then relist it or trash depending on the outcome. I have actually never had anyone curse at me thru eBay, so not sure how I would handle that.

He shouldn't have tried to disassemble it, but then again, you sold him something that was faulty. Highly doubtful that his disassembling of the product compounded the faulty switch issue, but on paper you may be able to get away with it, if that's what you're aiming for. Personally I would've just refunded him and had him return it. I'd be pretty bummed if I bought something faulty off of eBay and was told to blow some air around the electronics to troubleshoot.

Sounds kind of petty reporting someone for using the word BS...I'd be angry too if someone sold me something that was broken and wouldn't give me a full refund.
Never sell something unless you know for a fact it's in working order. Unless it's UIOB.

Yeah, I just don't trust people I haven't met. If he is uncivilized enough to use profanity he could very well be the kind to vandalize it upon return, thus degrading the value more so.

I offered him an idea to try out before he returned it because that is a possible solution, and even offered a full refund had he followed the advice. After all if it did work after the air duster it would have solved everything.

I don't want a bad rep, but I don't want to deal with vulgarity when I was clearly trying to help make the day easier.
I received a cracked overflow box once and solved the whole ordeal with civilized communication.

I guess we will see how it plays out. He admittedly dismantled it and used profanity. Maybe I will win. Maybe not. Either way, no skin off my nose.

Case is still open but that guy is not getting a refund I think. He could have just been civilized and got his money back. Last message he sent we was that he was escalating the case. I messaged him back that i am fine with that, he can lose his account for profanity and his money. Sorry pal! I tried to be reasonable.
