I am stumped, and I am only questioning this because of the time frame of it. My husband said last night that our electric bill went up $200 for the last 2 months. I started my tank 2 months ago. Ok, I upgraded my tank from a 32g Biocube to a 65g.

Here's what's running on my tank (which just changed 2 weeks ago).

Reefbreeders V2+ (recently upgraded from the V2). I think I have the 24 inch. I can't see this as being the reason because it's LED.
Aquaclear 110
Aqueon 75
Upgraded to an FX4 two weeks ago and tore down the two HOB filters.
Jebao pp4
Heater
Seneye
Added Jebao SLW-20 last weekend.

I've ran all kinds of stuff. When I ran the T5's over my 120g I know that our bill went up like $50 if I remember. It was 6ft long and double ballast but this set up is much simpler!

I just can't say it's my tank based on previous tanks! I'm hoping someone with more expertise in this area can comment!

Thank you in advance!

It will have gone up a little but not this much
Is the furnace running more often due to winter and any electrical heaters being used?
They do sell plug in units where you can monitor and view electric usage

We just got a new "smart" meter, so we are going to look at it and see. I know it should go up some, but I agree not this much. We are trying to pinpoint what the change is. No, I haven't used a space heater this year at home (a first). I am not sure what changed!

+1 w/vette, I run a 120 & 65 kessils on both, dual heaters, dosers, ATOs, vortechs on both and the 2 tanks add about $70 to my home.
What else besides "winter" has changed in your home?

We had a repair done to our plumbing, near the water heater. We are wondering about that. My husband added a Fluval 16g (or whatever size, the medium one with the bowed front). I still can't see it!

Yeah the on that 120g, that's about what mine was when I had a ton of stuff plugged into it!

I don't this time, it's minimalistic, for now!

That bill increase sounds very excessive to me. Even my 187g system doesn't use that much, but we also don't have any crazy Time of Use charges.
It could be that your utility has added a time of use based demand charge to your system when they installed the new meter. You would need to take a close look at your bill to determine that. In this case, the tank would contribute but it but wouldn't be the only factor.

My 660g raised the bill maybe $40 a month and I added 5 Orphek Atlantiks plus CA REACTOR, larger skimmer and a chiller unit
