Electric timers

I have the kessil h380 grow light and if I run it for 8 hours it starts to turn white spots on some of my chaeto so I was gonna buy a timer to try to run it for 4 hours instead of 8 will these timers work because my lfs sells one that is made by auquasun and I'm thinking about buying it for the light but don't know if it will work for the light or not. Can anyone help me out with this thanks??

Any basic timer should work just fine :)

Ok thanks alot I definitely gotta buy one because my chaeto was tumbling with a pump in there but since it's grown a good bit it stopped tumbling now so now it's starting to get to much light on one side at a time I'm thinking
