They like shade and not too much flow, I used to keep mine almost completely hidden from light, that was years ago though.

In the last 3-4yrs I’ve never been able to keep one for more than a few months, the latest one died after about 18mos and can’t say it really ever thrived. They do retract quite a bit as a part of their normal cycle but in my experience not a great sign when they inflate too much and stay that way for more than a few hrs or a day. Any fish bothering it?

Hope yours is just acclimating to the new tank light/flow!

No I think he's OK now. Prolly to intense light to start.... He's under a ledge now doing better.

Nice. I can't get them to stay alive. Fully open for a few weeks then they slowly start to shrivel over several days until they no longer open. Had about 4 or 5 of them play out exactly like this. The same exact way each time (in different tanks mind you). My most recent I've had for a month has started to close slightly. I already know what's coming.

So I honestly went through the same thing you are. I’ve probably had over ten pieces from 2005 to 2018 do the same exact thing. They look great in LFS. They come home and look good for 2-4 weeks and then perish. Little back story on the 2 pieces I have now. I was buying from a local guy and he offered me the 2 of them for free. I told him my story of not being successful and he insisted. So I’ve had these two pieces since last September.... Crazy...

Who knows what the trick is. I always remember the experts telling me sand bed, low to medium light, low to medium flow and give it space. After that it’s a crap shoot.

Here’s a video of them right now. Lights only on for hour and half power.
