elegance reproduction

Welp i've had my elegance for more than a year now and lately it looks like a couple mouths might be splitting off more like dividing the elegance in half...could just be me or how the coral is acting...

but how do elegances reproduce besides people slicing them up with a inland saw...

I have had my elegance for over two years now, although it is about the size of a basketball it has not split yet. I could be wrong about this, but I think it is like a wall hammer and you have to frag it. I am very glad you posted this thread because I have been wondering the same thing. mine is taking over my 225g and I cant move other corals back much further.

I think they can split and form a new colony, but stay attached to the mother skeleton. The largest one I've seen was around 2ft x 2ft.

thats what i kinda figured but it was worth an ask. yea i had my elegance in a 35g hex and well it was fighting for space, now that i have it in my 90g you can see the spot it has, kinda its own little area for it to grow for now.

Generally they will produce a small mouth under the main coral,and as the mouth ages,the coral will produce a CA base and the mouth will contine to grow as the CA base grows.And,then,at some point,the CA base the mouth is on will fall off,or in nature,get bashed on by waves and such forcing them off.Its easy to propagate elegances,I should put a video up of it!

im sure its easy i was just wondering if they did such a thing cause i thought my elegance was doing that which apparently is just it acting funny.
Though it would be nice to see a video of propagating elegances.

I saw one of these in the LFS a couple of days ago and was wondering if there were any "frags" of it, didn't know exactly what part you could frag. Since I have a 40g, I know I can't fit a full grown one on my tank :P Video would be cool!

Fragging is simple,I may buy a small one with 2/3 mouths and frag it,and show how simple it is...

Which elegance skeleton type do you find is the easiest to frag because i know there are ones that grow more like wall hammers and than there are ones that have a cone shape skeleton. Which mine has.

I think the diffirence in the shapes is the origin of the elegance.Indo vs. Aussie.

Personally,I think that the walls are easy to frag,but,it does depend on the location of the eye,either way,you can do it with a dremel or a tile saw,you will get the same result,for small ones,its easy to just use a dremel,but as the skeleton gets thicker its easier to just use a tile saw.

I see. Yea i think im just to the point where i've had this elegance for such a long time and when i see people having such trouble with them, i dont want to risk killing the coral that has really become a center piece for my tank. Im sure its easy to do but getting myself to do it to a coral like that is something totally different.

I dont blame you,my LFS had in a 18" pink tip Aussie Elegance,absolutly amazing piece,I would never touch it...and I would never buy it either,$550,haha!

wow 550$ lol thats a bit of a reach....My elegance is on its way to getting pretty large but i could never see myself cutting it or even selling it. Its interesting and i like the way it moves in the flow. My clowns love it too.
