Hey,
I did have slime growth in my sump which happens with carbon dosing vodka or vinegar at the start. The slime is the tank getting used to the excess bacteria growth. I took care of it by pulling it out and added a flow pump in my skimmer section. You can also just wait it out or lower the dosage and increase it in a week or so. I pushed thru since I wanted to take care of my nitrates. I don’t recall seeing a difference between the two when it comes to ph. I have low ph all the time, my high is 7.9ish and at night is around 7.8.
I was dosing about 12-15ml of elimi-np. I even used bacto-balance with microbacter7 dosed daily. That combination works but it becomes expensive quickly. But because they sell the big bottles it was attractive.
That also happened to me, my nitrates were in the high 30s when I started. They started to come down but the phosphate had zero change. This is why I dose phosphate-e from Brightwell aquatics in between my Reefmat. I dose 1-2ml a day now to keep them around 0.10. I test weekly and Saturday’s reading was 0.08. I did not see any cyano but some people do. Have you seen the thread from the late Miami reef? It has wealth of information in it and even the tables he made to know starting and maintenance dosages. All I know about vodka dosing I learned it from that thread.
My opinion, I think Tropic Marin is geared more to small and medium sized tanks. For example, all for reef, I dose 45ml daily and I think moving to kalk makes more sense. Cheaper and supposedly it helps with phosphates. With the Black Friday sales, I ordered the avast marine kalk stirrer.
Here is the thread I mentioned earlier. If you do use phosphatE, be careful with it. Dose it between the roller mat if you have one or a really fine filer sock. Let me know if you have any other questions.
