emerald crab and goby death

I just bought a new twin spot goby yesterday evening, and just came back from a get-together, and the goby was COMPLETELY ripped apart
was this cause the crabs are low on food? is this normal? something...
its a 11.3 gal and my lfs said it is fine

No idea, but most likely the goby was dead or on its deathbed before the crab got ahold of it.

The crabs aren't very fast and I would be surprised if it would catch a healthy live fish.

idk why it even died, the salinity of my lfs is .22 and mine WAS .30(it spiked... its now around .27, still going down slowly) idk what to do
ive emailed my lfs
I just want another fish besides 1 clown
whenever I get a new fish, it died
I dont know what to do anymore, its really heartbreaking

Twin spot goby is not appropriate for a nano tank. They are sandsifters, picky, often skinny at the LFS and basically will die in a typical nano.

They never should have sold you that fish but you also need to research each purchase or you risk just throwing your money away.

Live Aquaria lists this goby as “difficult”

Sorry, I learned the hard way too. My clownfish pair murdered most of the other fish in my 32 gallon tank. They are really not good pets.

When you pick out a fish ask them to feed it and make sure it eats! And that it isn’t spitting out the food. Watch the fish for awhile, make sure it looks perfect and that its breathing rate and behavior are normal. No scratching, no twitching or anything odd. Buy something beginner and nano friendly like a shrimp goby.

Six line may stand a chance. They are jerks too.

If the salinity of your tank is higher than the fish stores water, you should match the stores salinity in an isolation tank. then SLOWLY raise the salinity of that tank to your tank, over the period of several days or a week, depending on the difference.

That said, I wouldn't put 2 fish in an 11 gallon tank. I prenatally wouldn't even 1 fish in an 11 gallon tank, but you do you.

Too small for a sixline, they are mean as hell in small tanks once mature.

It sounds like your LFS is just selling you crappy fish. Twin spot and six lines are both terrible for a 11g.

my clown was peaceful as hell when I put mr goby in, didn't even notice it, he was strolling around like normal, but this lfs is very good in nj, but ok :D

Well for the twin spot, that is a never buy that fish. Almost no one keeps them alive. LFS just wants to sell it before it dies in their tanks.

Yellow watchman, wheelers, pink spotted watchman, yellow spotted watchman, etc.

They can’t be very good if they sent you home with a twin spot, if they are then they knew they were selling you a fish that will eventually die. More money if you buy a new fish though.

Anyways it sucks this happened. Very frustrating I am sure. I was sold some things that I shouldn’t have been when I first entered the hobby.

The shrimp gobies pair with candy cane or tiger pistol shrimp which is fun to watch but not a requirement.

Don’t feel bad asking to see it eat before you take it home. A fish not eating is a red flag.

I once kept a tomato clownfish alone in a 20 gallon for a couple of years. Really nothing wrong with having just one fish in the tank, especially such a small tank. Be happy with the clown and stop trying to force it.

There's a reason, I don't keep emerald crabs in my tank.

They are opportunity hunters - and I have seen them kill fish, healthy fish. If they can catch it, especially bottom dwelling fish - they can absolutely kill it.

You have a very small tank. I'd recommend not keeping more than one fish.
