My emerald crab is a little over 3 years.

He's always been whitish-green in color. I don't see him all the time since he's been hiding.. maybe once a week or so I'll see him.

Tonight I had to take a double take. he grew a lot and is now burgundy/red?! I had no idea emeralds can turn red!

What's going on? Why's he red now?

Side note, I added 2 more emeralds about 2 months ago. I did see some shells recently, not sure if they've molted or are dead now. they were tiny compared to my older guy.

Terrible image since he was in a spot I can't photograph well

That's awesome!! its a mithrax crab which is basically the same as an emerald crab. should act in the same way really

That's cool. Yeah I thinks it's a Mithrax - they can start looking like a emerald and change as they get older... google these guys and see if I'm right... I could be wrong

I am googling now to see! give me a sec.

I found my other emerald that I added. So tiny tiny compared to this one, I actually "aww'd", lol. he was hiding in the stylo

looks like it could be a ruby Mithrax, or red emerald.

I find it strange that I've had it for 3 years and now it just changed, like within a week it changed. I saw it a week ago and it was still green

Yeah it's doesn't surprise with this hobby! I hope I helped!
