Emergency hammer dying

I bought this hammer roughly 12 hours ago and it looks like shi what am i doing im so close to giving up

this one unfortunately looks like it is already dead. Any other corals in the tank? What are your water parameters? Are you using reliable test kits (not api)? Are you using rodi water or tap? Are you measuring salinity with a refractometer and calibration solution or hydrometer?

That looks like it’s been dying for more than 12 hours.

Can you post the exact parameters and what brand test kits you are using? (Salinity, alk, cal, phosphate, and nitrate)

Are you using rodi water or tap? Are you measuring salinity with a refractometer and calibration solution or hydrometer (not swing arm hydrometer)?

Zoanthids are gonna be very easy and can tolerate a wide variety of parameters, while acans can be more finicky but usually decline over time and not overnight ime if conditions arent met

We are only as good as the info you provide! What test kits are the LFS using. What is your Alk/PO4/No3/Calc/Mag/Salinity/Temp. Do you dose. What lights are you using. Whats your tank stocked with and the volume. If we can't figure out what your tank looks like we cant help

You need to ask them what they are using for test kits. Many LFS go cheap and use api and wont give the most reliable results. You should also ask for written results so you know the exact numbers. Again though, are you using rodi or tap water? How are you testing salinity? These are both important for understanding what is going on in your tank and no one is going to be able to really help you without getting all of your tank info first.

That is a wild decline in 12 hours. Unfortunately we just need more information to diagnose. I know it's tough because we all want quick answers when we have issues, but with reefs, it is not every that easy.

Whatever the reason for this starting is unknown, what is known is this is suffering from a bacterial infection. Euphyllia are incredibly susceptible to them and they kill them fast, not usually 12 hours fast, but 72 hours can be completely melted as this one is. Now this one is far too gone to save, its completely jello. In the future treat with ciprofloxacin, 500mg tablet or 2 250mg tablets into 50ml rodi water. Dose 1ml per 10 gallons of water to treat.

This decline is not your fault. You just bought a dying coral.
I suggest you look at photos of a healthy coral then go by one. Ask the lfs person to spin it around, make it close up, ect. Make sure it's healthy before you take out your wallet.
Here are some pics. Large colony, flesh comes off the head pretty far. Maybe 1.5 to 2 inches. Right after the flesh, see how it's brown and not bright white? That means NO receeding recently. If it were bright and/or no flesh, 100% pass, do not buy it.
