I just got a new emperor angel. Very gorgeous fish. So far its just eating tiny mysis shrimp. Whats everyone feeding theirs? Mine seems a bit picky.

Mine will eat everything and does. Maybe it’s just settling in to it’s new home

I got a small one last month. Had him about 2 weeks. Couldn’t get him to eat much. Tried multiple things. Until one of my lfs said throw in half clams so they can pick at them. Then eventually start putting flake on top to get the angel used to it.

At the store they fed him mysis shrimp too. He doesnt eat nori, frozen altalntic shrimp, frozen clams or 1mm pellets. It is picking the rocks though. I may try fresh clams.

Ideally, a frozen food with sponges would be great to add to the mysis.

I got mine as an adult, he eats everything..lrs frozen foods (reef frenzy), nori, romain lettuce (organic), mysis, flake, live blackworms etc..

I generally start all new fish on live blackworms just to get them to eat, and from there add frozen/flake/pellets etc.

I like to leave fresh romaine lettuce there all day as tangs, foxface, and large angels might take a bit to realize its food, but once they do they will always eat it all up by end of day.

Mine took to real seafood blended with nori. Now will eat anything.
Did he eat nori before that but then you mixed nori and seafood and he ate it?

Honestly it was stubborn for days wouldnt touch anything but my pineapple sponges from my sump. Then I used nori sheets saw him nip at it. That's when I added nori to my seafood mix that I always used anyways thought why not try it.
Clam salmon scallops shrimp nori chlorella flakes and nls pellets is my food for my whole tank now ever fish eats it all and is cheaper than buying packaged foods. Honestly I think angel mix probably best to try first since it has sponge.

So i couldnt find any local angelfish formula food. So instead i bought some live black mussels. I cracked one open and sprayed juice all over my wife lol. Dropped it in the tank and immediately the emperor went over and pecked a piece and slurped it up! Wow. I got 5 left in saltwater and a bubbler. So fsr eats mysis and these muscles.

This is the fish i needed. Hes not very shy and roams the tank. Now most of the fish dont hide all day. Happy about this.

My emperor has developed this habit of ripping up frags, carrying them around and dropping them behind the rocks. Most annoying.

That sucks. Lol. I bought mine knowing he might eat every coral in there. Im fine with that. So far it hasnt touched any. What kind of corals does he do it to?

Mostly small chalice frags. Have, had, a rainbow frag that’s missing, frag disc, putty and all. I just KNOW it’s down behind the rocks since that’s the only place I cannot see. He’s lucky I like him otherwise a fishin’ I would go.

Wouldnt that be cool if you found it growing there a year later? How big is yours? Mines just 4". Colors in transformation. I wonder how long to develop adult colors.

Idiosyncratic behavior aside, including grunting and a generally cranky appearance, one of my favorite large angels (along with regal and asfur). Got mine with adult colors, maybe 5 inches. Grown about 2 inches in the 18 months I’ve had it.
