Always afraid of power outages. If we lose power, it's 4 days minimum. I actually have at 25 gal I'm setting up that I delayed just in case.

Luckily, no power outage, and we got 4 inches! It was crazy!

Oh we got a lot here too! After the winter storm of 2021, I upgraded my generator situation. I survived the storm with a 3500w one and running extension chords, but that spring I got a 7200w, converted it to NG, and got it hooked up to the panel. It's enough to run everything but the HVAC AC. However, it's plenty enough to run window units. So, during the summer, I just close off the front bedrooms and keep the main living area, master bedroom, and fish room at a crisp 73 degrees in August no problem. For the winter, my HVAC heat is NG so I just have to power the fan, which draws very little power.

Regardless of tanks, if you live on the gulf coast, you HAVE TO HAVE A GENERATOR, especially in Texas. We have a third world power grid and you can't rely on it. At bare minimum, everyone needs a 3500w generator and a window unit so you can at least power the essentials, plus keep a room or two cool with a window unit. An 8000btu window unit only draws maybe 600-800w and can cool a very large room so that you can sleep in the miserable summer, even if you lose power.

Going into the storms this spring, I got all my neighbors on the 3500w/window unit method and they were very happy they did. Also, even if you don't lose power, your AC will eventually break, and it seems it only ever happens in the dead of summer. You'll be glad you had the window unit when it dose.
