Hi all,

I was just wondering if I have enough flow going through my tank/if my coral are happy enough? I have a Compaction 1000 (250 gph) running though a random outflow pointed towards the back as it was how the head attached best. Cascade 500 pointed to the surface for agitation. Should I reposition any flow? Don't really want to add a powerhead but will if necessary, and any suggestions on very low gph ones? Currently 1 striped blenny, adding clown pair this week. Cleaner shrimp & CUC.

Thank you all so much, any help is greatly appreciated :)

Coral stock:
Clove Polyp
Devil's Hand
Toadstool
Red Montripora
Purple Haze Montipora
Zoa Colony
GSP Colony
Hammer Coral - my fav :)
Xenia (on the comeback)

Just turned on the lights so not everything had opened for the day yet.

I'd guess you do, but it would be helpful to know the flow (gph) of the Cascade 500?

I would get a stronger pump but I think that will do fine. I ran my setup just like yours for a few weeks but found detritus buildup. I used the Y connector to opt for 2x 1/2 RFG. Running a Syncra Silent 1.0 so my rate is closer to 250 gph. RFG work best at higher flow rates and I believe they are spec to work at certain flow rates

So you have 350gph of water movement in a 13.5 gallon tank, is that right?

That's about 26 turns per hour. That's near the bottom end for a soft coral tank. 35 is more common, I think. And some sps tanks get over 60 turns per hour.

Thank you so much for the reply! Added a 190 gph powerhead and repositioned flow, will post new pics later. Thanks again! :)

I think you entire tank will be happier with the additional flow. But then I'm a big fan of both more flow in general and very randomized flow in particular.

I have an Evo 13.5 and I'm currently using the stock pump (132GPH) and a Fluval CP1 (265GPH) giving me a total of 397 GPH in that tank. That's almost 30x the circulation rate. I have 2 clowns, 1 Fire Shrimp, 1 Turbo Snail, 2 Trochus Snails, Zoa's, LPS and softies in this tank and they seem to enjoy the current flow rate.
