I typically have a filter and skimmer as they both 'remove' and compliment each other. We will always need filters,not necessarily skimmers, airstones used to do the same job.
Need suitable light... and water movement and temp control.

Been the same rules forany type of tank forever and a day, the fundamentals dont change

I don’t really need my apex DOS auto water setup or dosing pumps, but I didn’t have real success until I added them. Now I can’t imagine doing that stuff manually.
