A couple of little updates:

First, I added the horizontal XF330 bracket today

I also silicones the back of the vertical XF330 bracket for the other side of the tank so it'll be ready for install in a couple of days.

Second, the Sand Sifter was out on the glass today - definitely starting to see what appears to be a decline in health even with as much as I overfeed the tank

You can see his legs are starting to get little pieces of flesh starting to deteriorate. This is why I would never buy one of these guys on purpose.

My nitrates tend towards high (typically) so I would imagine no. They require a lot of food to sustain them, though, which would definitely play a role in increased nitrates.

A lot of my nitrates are probably coming from a fairly dirty sump (I raise Anemones and a pair of clowns there) rather than a dirty sand bed which is where the star gets it's food.

I think it's probably not a one to one relationship - more food means higher nitrates almost always but higher nitrates doesn't necessarily mean more starfish food?

The sand sifting stars eat pods and meaty foods but need massive tanks to live.

Might be tunicates rather than a sponge, I dunno. Either way, it's kinda neat looking.

It's definitely not though. This thing is wrapped around the frag plug. Hard to get a great picture because of the location (and because I'm not great at taking pictures).

Fleece Roller was installed yesterday. As of right now, it has not rolled the fleece at all:

I think I need to lower the level sensor some but I don't want too much. Kinda like a dry skim, I want a thick fleece?

Probably a little early still but I hope you don't run into the same issues I've had with my Klir7 where the water level just never rises high enough to trigger the fleece advancement. Even without it rolling automatically it still beats changing out socks or filter pads but it would be nice if it actually worked as it's supposed to.

They said to wait 24 hours and lower the sensor if necessary.

I just checked the filter and it's discolored but nowhere near "full" and ready to roll so that's good I suppose. It's been 24 hours but I'm not going to lower the sensor. I can visually tell that the water level has risen somewhat but there's still a lot of "clean" in the cloth. If tomorrow evening it still doesn't seem to be rising, I can lower the sensor some but I'd rather let it rise naturally if it's going to.

On that note, how do you like the reef diapers? Are they worth the expense?

I only used 2 of the Reef Diapers when I was running the 125 a few years back. They were ok but had a tendency to plug up and then they'd be difficult to remove from swelling.

The remainder of them I used for siphoning algae and crud out of my DT into the sump. They were good - definitely got rid of a lot of suspended junk in the water and was great for GHA siphoning and Dinos/Cyano at times.

Never had one rip, even when they were severely overloaded. I sometimes went 2-3 months, not weeks, between changes. I've had a couple of fleece socks rip at the seams when they get full

As far as the roller, it hasn't started rolling yet. That's what I was saying is that it's starting to be dirty, but not enough to raise the water level significantly. Soon we'll see! Like I said, I prefer a dry skim, I think I'll prefer a thick fleece roll.
