My poor Betta! I swear she gets uglier every time I see her.

She's really not ugly. Just the red coloration coming in at the base of her tail is splotchy. I really love the semi-transparency of her tail though. A very metallic sky blue shimmer.

I forgot to mention. IOAOI is doing a test for an 800 gph return pump. I got mine in the mail yesterday. Can't wait to get it installed on the freshwater soon.

I think it's time for a snow... Getting a tint to the water that I hadn't noticed until this picture.

The first picture is how they left the skimmer after they put together the aquarium. And said that I can move it to the return section, but will there be anything to skim there??? Shouldn’t there be clean water?
I fiddled a bit with moving the things around, and fit the skimmer instead of one of the socks. I will adopt the idea of 3d printing a new fitting though, if you all think it will be a good idea. But since the socks section and the skimmer section don’t have a barrier in between, will my future copepods be sucked into the skimmer?

First question answer: yes and no. The skimmer is typically installed after the mechanical filtration such a s socks, sponges, etc. skimming doesn't remove the particulates, it removes nitrates and phosphates by removing dissolved junk from the water column. It's basically the same function as the refugium. Neither the refugium or skimmer will remove 100% of the dissolved organics so the water will never truly be "clean", just cleaner.

Question 2: yes, but no. Keep in mind that using a refugium to increase pods is a great function of a refugium but in order for them to get to the display above, they have to go through the return pump. Will the skimmer remove some from the water? Most likely yes, but so will filter socks/filter floss/sponges. Will the skimmer kill the pods? Maybe some, but probably not enough to make a dent.

I run my skimmer section as a "refugium" with no skimmer on my tank. I have a pair of Clowns and some Anemones (and a few random corals I tossed in because "why not?"). Over filtering can be a bigger concern than no filtering. You can strip the nutrients from the water and leave your corals/macro algaes with little to no food causing dino out breaks or algae explosions.

I have the Mariner 70, likely over stocked with fish, feed 7-12 times a day, and still have to dose phosphates to keep from killing SPS.
