ESHOPPS Mariner 70 Build

It's the HelloReef GloFish. It comes with an AI Blade so I'm trying to decide if I set it up as a saltwater tank or freshwater. I'm leaning freshwater since I'm only at work 3 days a week.

If I won a desktop tank for work - it would be freshwater, live planted, with leeches as the inhabitants :D

i know they're super pretty... I'm wondering how long you can resist not dripping your own blood into the tank to watch them go into a frenzy...

with the amount of times I hurt myself at work, probably not very long "just to see" :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I just don't get it. Strats are growing ridiculous, chalices are happy and puffy, Birdsnest is branching everywhere, BTA is HUGE, Digis are exploding with growth, Monti Cap is morphing and growing sticks and plating out at the same time, green Blastos are happy and growing, Green Goblin Anacropora is growing a TON but so weird growth, and then Alveopora is dying, Acans are shrinking, and Dragon Soul Favia and Reverse Prism Favia are fading/shrinking.

And yes, dirty glass.

And for the first time in a LONG time, I have hair algae showing up.

Sounds like your nutrients are too low. All of the corals you mentioned prefer higher nutes, IME.

Hrmm... I replied before I saw the hair algae comment. It could be sequestering nutrients. Maybe?

My nitrates are on the low side so I have been dosing Ammonium off and on. We're at 14. Phosphates are flashing so I'm trying to bring them down some.

I'm wondering if it's one of the gyres. I added the second one and that's when this all more or less started... It was used so there's definitely a possibility of rust.

Your trates are about spot on for a healthy system. It would be the PO4, but I would expect your sticks to be grumpy.

Can't help with the alveopora, except to try moving it around until it is happier. The others perhaps move around and try direct feeding?

If it were me, I would do a significant WC, yank the gyres, and then run Purigen (or carbon if no access) and cuprisorb.

Well, my Pink Cadillac is grumpy. Lost 1 frag, a second frag started slow STN on the side - not base or not tips, third frag is kinda losing color.

I have your mailing address around here somewhere. Things are crazy on my end and, as you know, I'm not home. When I have a chance, I'll ship you a pair of Jebao gyres- the 120's. Only wet for about 3- 4 months and essentially brand new.

Happy birthday or something.

I was considering feeding them today for sure. I've got Roids, Coral Cane, Reef Candy, Reef Jerky, and some Coral Fusion. Plus I've got frozen Mysids and fresh Phyto.

Probably not the Roids since phosphates are high already, yeah?

Coral Cane and Phyto plus Mysids is what I was thinking.

Likely your phosphates, but I would still enact a heavy metals response in tandem, just in case the gyres are leeching something funky.

I've got powerheads, I just added the IceCap and loved it, then I got a pair of used Maxspect so I added one of them. It was after the Maxspect that the Dragon Soul started fading out.

Maybe I'll pull that one out and use a powerhead and the IceCap.

Well fine then!

I didn't want to give them to you anyway. You already get too much free detritus.

I think I've got some Zeolite but that binds Ammonia so it might be counterproductive.

I'll try to grab some Cuprizorb.

Zeo wouldn't be appropriate here. Like you said- it'll ultimately crash your NO3, and then you open yourself up to dinos and cyano. You'll be playing whack-a-mole.

Cuprisorb is available at the Petsmart near my work. I'll grab a bag tomorrow and get it running.
