Hi all, a few of my Euphyllia are creating this bubble at the top of the flesh band. Any ideas on what causes this? Sorry for blurry pics lights are off in the photo.

Was it open when the lights were on? If so, this looks normal. Euphyllia can behave differently at night. Some will stay almost fully open all night. Others will partially open. I believe these are all feeding responses. Some Euphyllia can close up and literally look dead at night. It depends on the individual coral and the presence of food. They’ll often open and close throughout the night.

If it wasn’t fully open today, then we should take a look at your parameters.

You’re welcome. Looking at a reef tank at night can be nerve wracking because coral behave differently almost minute to minute. If you check on them later tonight, they’ll likely look different than they do now.

Yea it’s pretty crazy lol. I think my one hammer still has some bubble during the day I wish I knew what it meant.

Is it in the center of the polyp? That would mean it’s in the process of splitting. Some Euphyllia do that when they are splitting, others don’t. The bubble could be there for weeks to months depending on fast it splits.

No it’s the outter flesh band area that’s doing it.

Hmm I’m not 100% sure about that one. My hammer that’s in the process of splitting looks like that at night quite a bit, but it opens normally in the day. It looks like yours could be splitting as well. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.
