Evil Dwarf Ceriths vs my Gyre's

I dropped about 30 Dwarf Ceriths in my 75 and they are voracious cleaners! I am actually getting ready to order some more now that the tank is more established. But In the past 2 months I have been through 5 or more of the Gyre rubber propeller bushings. The snails decide that inside the spinning gyre is a good place to go which stops the propellor shredding the bushing. I even had one go inside the cage and instead of shred the bushing is spun the cage around so that it was pointing straight up!!! Luckily I caught it before it caused any damage to the floors outside the tank. The foam cover that comes with them looks like it would restrict a lot of flow but I have not tried them. BRS sells some covers but looks like the snails would still be able to get in. Anyone have experience with either of the covers?

Very interesting. I have a 250 as well and found about 8-10 dwarf cerith D’s in the inner rotors but it seemingly never caused damage. Maybe I’m just lucky

Between getting in the Gyres and ending up in my overflow, I have sworn off dwarf ceriths.

Whats very strange is I have had Dwarf Ceriths for several years in the same tank, same setup. before moving and never had issues. Since re setting up in the new house its been nothing but a headache.

Between getting in the Gyres and ending up in my overflow, I have sworn off dwarf ceriths.

LOL, they do get everywhere but thats why I like them, I have sworn off crabs an they are very good cleaners. I dont mind them in the sump just not the powerheads. Although now that I think about it I should probably cover the inlet of my return pump to be safe.

I never mix dwarf ceriths and gyres. On systems with gyres now I just order a ton of zig zag perwinkles instead. They may not be as good but they seem to work okay for me and the shape of their shell makes them less likely to get jammed in a gyre. Ironically I had a sicce voyager die because one of those mini limpets managed to get down inside the impeller shaft hole and jam it up :/
