Hey everyone,
New reefer here starting with a nano tank. Yes, I know nanos are not really recommended for beginners but I'm taking it very slowly.
I'm currently cycling my tank with dry rock, sand, and a shrimp. Using Dr.Tims bacteria to start the cycle. I don't have much in the way of equipment. I purchased a vivosun to upgrade the pump for better flow. I have a heater in the first overflow chamber with a little digital temp gauge connected. I bought a fluval power head with the tank for flow, and that's it.
Future plans for upgrade: I want to remove the cover and upgrade the light. Not sure what light. I plan to remove the sponge block in the center chamber and replace it with a printed multistage media basket for the first and second chambers. Probably some porous bio blocks, carbon, a small sock right under the overflow. Other bagged media recommendations would be welcome.
Future livestock: I want to start with a cleanup crew. Turbo snails, some shrimp, not sure if I want hermits yet due to the possibility of them trying to steal the turbo shells. (Advice welcome) Id like to get a paired watchman and shrimp for my viewing pleasure.
One or two clowns purely for consistent nutrient production. That's will be it for a little bit. The next stage will be nutrient balance then corals. No leathers. I want some softies though. Frogspawn, hammers, zoas to begin. Possibly some GSP on the back wall. I realize GSP can get out of control, advice welcome. I love the way it looks. From there is like to get a few lps, and eventually some easy care sps.
Thanks for reading.
