I just saw this article while browsing around photography sites I used to visit. Laowa just released a new lens which I believe could have huge advantages for underwater macro photography over the current contenders. Being a Laowa lens, it will mount to Canon, Nikon and, Sony bodies.
Having a long water proof tube, which only weighs a little over a pound, will be much less clunky than the current macro lenses shrouded in a housing. Exciting stuff!

There is more photos and video demonstrating the capabilities of the lens. I think this would be so cool for polyps and sps shots. With the comparison shots to older macro lenses, this lens for sure has a greater depth of field and makes the subject appear more "real". Greater back ground definition is for sure what most macro shots here on R2R lack.

canon 100mm L macro is 900 bucks and actually 750 at the moment and a portal is what 40 bucks? at least on amazon. still way off but people will buy it. I can wait for the realistic price in a year
You could probably find it used in a year. There is also a ton of rental companies to try it.

Well that pic is not very crisp is why. Some people are just pickier though. If it works for you then flaunt your stuff :) Mine are with the Canon 100mm L

It was shot free hand with no image stabilization from 25 inches away. The lens has higher capability than that shot.
