Experience with Dalua Illumagic Pixel LED ?

Hello, reefers !

I am not so sure if this has been asked before and had been answered but I was recently made known to the existence of this brand of LED reef lights called the Dalua Illumagic Pixel LED ? I watched some videos about it and it seemed like a pretty straight-forward, easy to setup, on/off LED light that seems to be pretty solid and garnered quite a bit of positive thumbs up. I am currently running the AquaKnight V2 lights and signs of age is showing and I may need to look into a replacement in the near future.

With that said, I would like to ask if anyone here has had any experience with this particular lights and if so, how was it in terms of value, quality, results and overall satisfaction ?

I have ! I am currently looking into it as well. Have you had any experience with it ? If so, let me know how the kessils worked out for you and which would be best fitted for a 10 gal.

here are some that should be able to ship to malaysia as it is aliexpress, just search them up on the malaysian version of the site. if the aquaknight worked well for you why not try out the aquaknight v3? you will only really need 60watts total and you would only need to run at 100% if your tank was very light demanding

I used Illumagic pixels and love them. If you’re looking for a simple light with a fixed spectrum they’re awesome. You can get a dimmer/time that works very well. Nothing bad to say about them.

I have 7 Pixels, 6 on a custom bracket, (3 Fraggers and 3 Reefers) and 1 Refugium. If you end up getting them, you can buy different timers and power supplies / extension cables. The Dalua branded ones are way over priced.

That is a good question since they run @ 36v.
Easy enough to get a cheap and or better power supply matched to however many lights you use.
The "rating" seems to be 25 watts @ 36V for each light.
A cage style Meanwell to run 6 pixels with decent overhead (200w) is $34
So any recommendations also depends on light quantity, desired power supply quality, and water proofness..
And creative wiring.

The controller is what I'm curious about.
Theirs is spec-ed at 36V 120watts. Which is fine for 4 lights, 1 power supply.
BTW I'd still use the 200w power supply for 4 lamps. More overhead doesn't hurt within reason
Being limited to 4 light heads your wattage through the controller is 100w or less depending on dimming cycle.
It's not bad if it can run up to 4 lights provided they are all on the same power supply.

Only 6 time points, no color channels and no other bells and whistles though thankfully it does ramp.
About $35.

The electrical design appears more unconventional than usual. A guess would be pwm "dimming" on the power supply feeding a led board with constant current driver on board.
Definitely not a standard configuration but GUESSWORK on my part.

If so any number of cheap constant voltage strip controllers would work EXCEPT for the 36V problem.
Few are designed to handle more than 24V. If that is a a hard limit??? Believing Chinese specs is problematic, exceeding them moreso.

Not going too far out of my pay grade but the difference may be no more than what size MOSFET they use on the pwm output.
Secondly would be if the internal voltage regulator(s) can handle 36 v. There is at least one that drops voltage to 5 or 3.3v for the logic circuit. Can it handle 36v to say 5v without overheating?
There are other things to consider. It's probably not as simple as I picture it. Really takes a pro to flesh it all out. Just food for thought.

OK as I was leaving I had a tab open to a Pixel page. Had the breakdown of pixel plus parts (light, bracket,power supply, timer). and it came to $10.40 / watt..

These $90 mounts are a killer.
