Exquisite Firefish Stung by Mini Maxi

Caught my new firefish during a water change dart into a corner and on it's way hit my mini maxi and got stuck to it. It freed itself after 10 sec or so but now it's sitting on the floor of the tank and looks like this, chances of survival?

Eeek! I'm really sorry. I had this happen with a neon goby, who only lasted minutes after the incident. Normally, fish avoid the maxi-mini, but the goby ended up in my overflow and was disoriented after being rescued and returned to the display; he took a dive straight for the nem, probably thinking he was darting into a rock. The nem closed in on him, stung him, then spit him out. He hopped to a hiding spot, but died in minutes. Stuff like this really sucks! :(

Sorry to hear, but this is how the circle of life works in the ocean. :( If this ever happens again, a Methylene Blue or Malachite Green bath (or QT treatment) would be your best bet.

Malachite Green/Methylene Blue: Treats ammonia burn, cuts, injuries.

How To Treat - Comes in both liquid and powder form, sometimes mixed in with another medication(s). So, follow the directions on the label. Best used as a 30 minute bath solution, but you also can treat with it in a quarantine tank. Aerate heavily. If you are using it in a bath solution, then it is also a good idea to treat the fish with nitrofurazone (active ingredient found in Furan-2 and Nitrofuracin Green Powder) once he is returned to the quarantine tank. Nitrofurazone is great for treating open wounds or sores.

Pros - Highly effective.

Cons/Side Effects - Depletes oxygen from the water. Malachite Green is considered “harsher” on fish than Methylene Blue.
