Exterior Tank Cleaning

Any suggestions on the best way to clean the outside of a saltwater aquarium?

Spray windex on paper towel not directly into the glass aquarium always works for me and looks really clean.

Damp cloth no soap. Also never use Windex on an acrylic tank.

YES! vinegar and a little water goes a long way!!! its all i use now, and completely safe!

Vinegar and water. Vinegar is 100% safe around the reef tank and cuts the calcium deposits.

For the glass I use windex sprayed onto a paper towel. For the top of the tank and fiilter parts I just wipe with a damp shammy cloth. That gets all the salt residue.

since I have a tight fitting canopy, spray windex on, wipe with microfiber. on my other tanks, it is sprayed to the rag first.

I have had very good results by keeping a good coat of RainX on the exterior glass. RainX makes glass cleaning much easier and really helps keep the salt shadows (smudges) down as well as the haze you usually get after cleaning with vinegar/windex/etc. Long and short is that it makes glass cleaning a breeze and enables the magnet algae cleaner to slide like butter on the glass. Newspaper works better than paper towels but is more of a headache. Chamois cloths are also too much of a pain, and a silicone squeegee drips too much water on my cabinet and misses spots that later show up as a smudge or salt line. My friends and I all use RainX on our saltwater boat curtains and glass and it really helps keep the salt distortions, streaks, and smudges down.

I found ammonia free glass cleaner, but still spray a paper towel and them wipe my glass.

I use my tongue, and then a dry papertowel. Totally reef safe.

I use vinegar mixed with RO/DI water. It really cuts through any salt residue that may be on the glass. Every once in a while I will use windex sprayed onto a paper towel to give it a nice polish.

I use outright aquarium glass cleaner/polish. Works very well and makes glass streak free/finger print resistant.
