So fish are social. And they've just begun recording fish in the ocean, and sensitive microphones are revealing that fish are about as vocal as BIRDS. They all communicate, each species makes it's own sound, and to a degree fish can interpret other fish's language or at least meaning -- A fish can hear other fish panicking and tell something bad is happening.

The better our underwater microphone technology gets, the more were realizing they're talking almost non stop. Because of this, I believe the more fish the better. You gotta keep them entertained.

Any issues with it nipping at corals? I've been considering a pygmy for my system, which contains SPS and a few frags of zoanthids, but I am apprehensive.

I only have SPS and that isn't on the menu for most.
Oh, I thought that it is common for them to nip. I’ve seen numerous threads about it here. Maybe it depends on feeding and whether it’s wild-caught or captive-bred.

Anyway, I don’t want to hijack this thread; thanks for your input. :)

Here goes nothing... ...

12” tall, bottom-drilled, converted Frag Tank, 6’ long and 2’ wide. Makes about a 90 gallon FOWLR (not counting sump volume). Rocks are arranged for swimming both front and back. As you can see, I am running a protein skimmer and some BRS carbon and floss chambers from the sump; I just put my DIY algae scrubber back in (and have some sea lettuce coming for the same left-hand sump, to pull double-duty as a refugium). The tank doesn’t seem crowded, as at any given time about 1/2 of the fish are ‘elsewhere’ (i.e., minding their own business in the rock work, out of sight). So far, no fights to report, not even any chasing. Here’s the list:

4 Damsels [Three Stripe; Domino: 2 Yellow Tail Blues]
1 Talbot
3 Aiptasia Eating File Fish
1 Longnose Hawkfish
1 Valentini Puffer
1 Yellow Eyed Kole Tank
1 Bannerfish
1 One-Spot Foxface
1 Pearlscale Butterfly
1 Niger Triggerfish
2 Wrasse [Lunar and Blue Headed]
1 Keyhole Angel
1 Rusty Angel
————————

= 19 (with a Coral Beauty on-tap in QT)... I guess I like to live dangerously!

Beautiful!

My tank is sooo understocked that it's sad actually! I just fear adding disease to my tank.

Same here. I'm a newbie though. Only 2 fish in my 150g lol. QT is stressful for me, I hate it but no way I would skip it lol.

I "think" under stocked but please let me know what you think:
13 fish in my 240g
1-Ocellaris Clownfish
1-Hawk
1-Yellow Tang
1-Purple Tang
1-Tomini Tang
1-Mystery Wrasse
1-Firefish
1-Green Mandarin
2-Lyretail Anthias
2-Banggai Cardinalfish
1-Flame Angel

Often think about getting a few more ... but what I've got are getting along so well I hate to risk throwing things out of whack!

Very beautiful tank!
Thanks. I can never seem to capture it well on camera though. I have a really nice SLR and can do all kinds of other photography, but never seem to be able to capture the full tank shots well. I'm mostly compensating for the blue lighting in camera, then a bit more in RAW processing, but I still can't get the colors and vibrancy of the tank I see to show up in a picture. I may need to invest in a lens filter.

Well, Dave B., I guess the name @o2manyfish says it all! You may be the pack leader so far {wink}. I’m waiting until 5 p.m. PST for the lights to come on to enjoy your link. But I’d say at 18 Angels and 20 Tangs ALONE you have some good fish-keeping secrets to share with us...
