Fairy wrasse hiding in corner.

I just got a pintail fairy wrasse and added it to my tank it was out for the first day and ate a little. Today I’ve seen the fairy wrasse getting lunged at by my flame angelfish and has not been hitting in a corner behind a rock all day. I’m nervous as I don’t what the new wrasse to die. What do I do?

You could get an acclimation box and put the angelfish in there. Otherwise you may have to rehome one of the fish

Get a plastic critter box from a pet store

Pet carrier doesn’t help with catching the fish. Also the wrasses scales appear damaged and there’s a few small spots on it they might be sand they look a little large to be ick but not sure as the vendor said the fish was quarantined and my qt tank has high ammonia at the moment and feel backed into a bad place.

You can try that too. Ick is unlikely on wrasse, probably sand

The pintail is one of the more timid of the Cirhilabrus genus. I’m guessing this is a small tank. It will not do well with the flame. The pintail will probably be easier to catch and take back to the lfs.

I've had this same thing happen to a few of the wrasse I've added, newcomer restricted to one top corner of tank even without any really obvious agressors. As long as they keep eating I'm not worried and within 3-7 days they will start moving around the tank. I've also got a pintail coming along with 6 other fish, still undecided if I'll box this one.

Is it stil eating? Can you feed one end of the tank first and then squirt some food into where your pintal is hiding.

I don't have a flame, but when I put my Splendid Pintail Fairy Wrasse in my 180g tank it was harrassed by my four damsels and hid in the upper corner of my tank, behind one of my returns, for four days straight. It didn't eat a thing during that time. I was just about to take him back to my LFS when it started coming out of its hiding place occasionally. By day six it was cruising the tank like a normal wrasse and eating. It doesn't take any crap from my damsels any longer. I'm quite glad that I didn't return it.

Update. Looking at your posts I think I overreacted, the spots are gone and the scale damage is healing the wrasse spends still most of its time up against the back wall swimming against the flow of the power head. The pintail is getting chased significantly less my the flame if at all anymore but still gets the flame a wide birth. Lastly the pintail has been eating well and is able to keep pace with my blue throat trigger which is impressive. Additionally the blue throat trigger has caused no issues which is good. The tank is a 75 so there’s plenty of space.
