76 is an old rule while not a problem. based on studies with parasite life cycles, it is 6-9 weeks which is 45-60 daysQuestion for everyone. Why is fallow recommended 76 days but coral and invert qt is recommended at 60 days? Wouldn’t this theoretically be the same?
So I can just go 60 confidently? I have temps at around 79-80 degrees76 is an old rule while not a problem. based on studies with parasite life cycles, it is 6-9 weeks which is 45-60 days
yes but of course do one good observation to assure all clear. At 80-81, you are sure to lessen the life cycle of protozoansSo I can just go 60 confidently? I have temps at around 79-80 degrees
I’ve got Atleast a month until tank is ready anyways fish just finished 30 days with copper they look goodyes but of course do one good observation to assure all clear. At 80-81, you are sure to lessen the life cycle of protozoans
They are gettin real grumpy in the smaller tank lolyes but of course do one good observation to assure all clear. At 80-81, you are sure to lessen the life cycle of protozoans
Yeah typical and keep an eye on ammonia levels with reliable test kitThey are gettin real grumpy in the smaller tank lol
I have not had a ammonia spike yet (fingers crossed) I seeded the tank with lots of media from DTYeah typical and keep an eye on ammonia levels with reliable test kit
The reason for 76 days was based on an experiment - I believe in the 1990s in which they kept a cold-water fish (i.e. the temp in the water was rather low, compared to a reef tank). Most of the infectious particles of CI died within 30-40 days. However, one strain survived for 72 days - and so as an insurance policy, people have used 76 days. As far as I know there has been no estimate of length in a reef tank - so people said let's try 60 days. 45 days is normally used if you are able to raise the temperature to 81, since the infectious agents die off more quickly. At least this is the theory. If I were going to fallow a tank - I would probably use 76 days - only because as long as you're doing it for 60 days (which is a pain) - another 16 days is not a big deal.Question for everyone.
